Fast Facts - Dairy Cows

There are 2.3 million dairy cows in the UK, each producing around 5900 litres per annum. Half of the milk is used for liquid consumption while the balance is processed. Use in cheese making accounts for half of all processed use

Milk contains butterfat which is separated and used in the production of butters

Half of all milk produced by cows is sold as liquid milk. The balance is used for butter, cheese and milk powders

This milk drink is produced from skimmed milk powder

Milk is an ideal accompaniment to the spices in sauces
